3/11~3/15 World MUN+

3/16~3/18 post-trip @Whistler+

Endless girls' talk= Wonderful experiences in Vancouver

As you might know, I've already been to Vancouver with NTNU MUN club members,

and we're already back in Taiwan last Tuesday night.

It was still freezing cold since it's been rainy and windy in Vancouver, but I sill appreciate its sense of tranquility.

Actually, Vancouver is similar to and different from Taipei in several aspects.

It is often rainy and windy, but the intensive rain and wind aren't as annoying as they are in Taipei.

It's because the mist adds a mysterious touch to this beautiful city.

Besides, buildings and houses are arranged orderly and separately.

It seems that people there value privacy more than we do so that their residence is separated by bushes or trees.

During the first two days, we went to several nearby tourist spots, such as Aquatic Aquarium and surroundings nearby our hotel
(Renaissance Hotel, near Vancouver Convention Centre)  for a stroll, sightseeing and taking pictures.
When it came to the conference week (March 11~15),
we had conference sessions 9~12 and 14:30~17:45 and nightly social events every night.

My partner Cindy and I are in the Legal Committee, and during the sessions, we've been discussing how to modernize the Geneva Conventions.

As you might know from the term, it is a topic of law,

so you could expect there were many students majoring in international law or political science and so forth.

I was quite inspired and amazed by their skills of making public speeches and debate.

As for nightly social events, I thought mostly they were much fun, but socializing is still not something I'm ever good at,

so for most of the time, I stayed near my friends or simply danced to myself, lol.

I guess the most special feature was Global Village on the first night

since there were many stands of countries all over the world.

We could get a taste of what it's like in different countries in terms of cuisines, culture and so on.

The following social events were mostly about clubbing and dancing, so I won't talk too much about them.

They were 1920s cabaret, masquerade, woodstock and farewell parties.

The main difference lies among them was about the dress code,

such as feathers and fedoras,  masquerade ball, hippie fashion and bright and tight.

During the second week, we  headed to Whistler, a famous ski resort for our post-conference trip.

It was actually my very first time to see and touch snow.

We took the gondola all the way up to higher mountains.

What came into our view was a dazzlingly beautiful world covered with snow and coniferous forest.

Since I have acrophobia, I couldn't really appreciate all the scenery along the way.

Later that night, we had snow-ball fighting just outside of Hi-Whistler Hostel.

I really have to say that I rarely participate in such a game and take it so seriously...

I had a quite intense snow-ball fighting with Esther despite my poor skills and physical strength, lol.

On the second day, we went for skiing.

It was supposed to be a cool experience, but somehow I didn't really enjoy it in the end.

I had much difficulty walking properly with those heavy boots and even gained fear after learning only a few techniques.

(Being stuck on the point or keep slipping from the point are terrifying to me...)

It seems that many fears, including acrophobia, aquaphobia( fear for swimming) and so on really hinder me from enjoying my life to the fullest.

We went for the scandinavian spa in the evening.

It was indeed soothing and comfortable to bathe ourselves in hot, cold water pools, relax inside saunas, steaming rooms and so forth.

Since the pools are outdoors, we could take in the beauty of nature as well.

On the last two days, we stayed at Century Plaza in downtown area.

It was such a beautiful sunny day!

My roommates(Annie, Cindy, Esther) and I took a boat to visit Granville Island.

We did some grocery shopping and watched a street performance.

Later, we even chased the sunset around the English Bay.

Although the wind by the ocean was so chilly, we did enjoy ourselves there.

At night, we even cooked ourselves dinner, including steak, peppers with bacon, soup, wine and desserts.

It was really lucky of us to savor cuisines to our hearts' content.

(To be honest, I don't know how to cook, so I mainly helped with doing all the dishes.)

We really did so many crazy things that day, hahaha.

Finally, we headed back to Taiwan after the 14-hour flight.

Journey in Vancouver was so much fun!

I could get a glimpse of what it's like outside my own surroundings, in a broader sense.

My dear friends' company is also what makes the journey so meaningful and interesting.

Traveling is indeed fascinating, and hopefully I could go around the world more often in the future.

I think my next destination would be Japan, and now I'm currently saving up money for it. :"))

I'd like to visit Naomi and go sightseeing there.

Despite this, I have to face the music as there are piles of schoolwork, research work and trivial matters for me to deal with.

Besides, I need to adapt to jet lag and adjust my biological clock back to normal...

Recently, drowsiness has often occupied my body and mind. I hope I could overcome such difficulty though.

I really started having the concrete confidence in myself that I'll definitely become a better version of myself. : )
